The history of the Schalber

The milestones of success

In 1972, the farmer and ski instructor Alois Schalber decided, with his wife Rosi Schalber, to set up as a restaurateur in his home town community.

He established the café and après-ski bar “Serfauserhof” at the family home.

Together, they succeeded in making the bar a popular meeting spot and a complete success. Total personal commitment and the willingness to achieve more than others are the two passions that distinguish the Schalber couple to this day and which made the further development of their business possible.

In 1974, the café was expanded into a restaurant operation

and in 1977 developed into the “Hotel Serfauserhof”.

In 1980, farming was relocated to the village limits and eight holiday apartments were, simultaneously, constructed at the new “Schalberhof”. During the following years the Serfauserhof was equipped with an indoor swimming pool, the holiday apartments expanded and further plans forged. Instead of developing the existing hotel, like many others confined to the village centre, Rosi and Alois Schalber took another path and,

in 1989, built, in the area of the “Schalberhof”, a new-build hotel, spacious and expansive in its dimensions, fitted to the highest of quality and constructed in accordance with the needs of the guests – at that time the “Alpenhotel Schalber”, now the “Wellness-Residence Schalber”.

From 1993, the Schalber family has orientated the hotel to be one of the first in Tyrol to focus on “wellness”, and has pursued this path persistently with great success ever since.

1996 saw the arrival of the Schalber Alm, a mountain restaurant.

In 2001, the wellness area was fully renovated and extended by 3000 m².

In 2002, the five-star award was made as an external indication of the quality and service orientation.

In December 2004, the new staff accommodation and the underground garage, with approximately 100 parking spaces, were opened.

In 2004, our kitchen, with head chef Gerhard Krießmann, was presented with 2 toque awards,

followed by 3 between 2006 and 2011.

All guest-hotel rooms were completely refurbished between 2004 and 2007.

2007 saw the extension of the Lady SPA and the new lounge, as well as the reconstruction of the hotel entrance.

In 2008, the Schalber Alm restaurant was expanded and the staff accommodation in the village centre was built.

2009 saw the construction and expansion of the panorama SPA, the garden area and a 20-meter outdoor pool (in summer); we now, therefore, have a SPA area extending over 3,500 m².

2011 – Extension of the dining room, staff accommodation and underground parking spaces

2012 – Remodelling of the hotel façade

2013 – New construction of seven superior family suites
